AFLAC is most famous for their clever “AFLAC Duck” commercials. • Hospital Intensive Care Coverage
  • Life Insurance
  • Juvenile Life Insurance
  • Lump Sum Cancer Payout
  • Lump Sum Critical Illness Payout
  • Short Term Disability Insurance (this coverage is only available through your employer)

Accident Insurance

This coverage picks up when you or your family is involved in a covered accident. It pays you cash benefits to help out with medical bills, as well as other expenses that are incurred due to the accident.

Cancer and Specified Disease Coverage

Even though you may have taken all the necessary precautions to prevent cancer or other terminal diseases, it is still a good idea to have this kind of policy in place just in case one of these types of illnesses does affect you or your family.

This policy would start paying benefits immediately and throughout the course of treatment for the illness. It pays things like hotel rooms when you have to travel to a treatment center, child care, mortgage, car or utility payments, deductibles left un-paid by policies, out of network cancer specialists and cancer treatments that are considered experimental.

Critical Care and Recovery Coverage

This type of insurance would pay cash benefits to you if you or a family member were to suffer a serious health event such as a heart attack, stroke or paralysis.

Life Insurance

AFLAC offers both term and whole life insurance policies. A term life insurance policy is effective only for the stated amount of time. For example a 10 year term policy will pay death benefits only if you were to pass away within the specified 10 year period.

Term policies are most often purchased for the length of a home mortgage or other substantial debt so that the spouse and family is not left with a bill they cannot pay. Whole life policies build cash value that can be borrowed on or even used to pay the policy’s premium and will pay death benefits as long as the premium is paid up to date or in full at the time of the policy holder’s death.

Juvenile Life Insurance

This type of life insurance policy is written only for children. It will pay a specified death benefit in the event of the death of the covered child as long as the premiums are paid up.

Lump Sum Cancer Payout

This policy would provide you with a pre-established cash amount when cancer is diagnosed to be used for whatever you choose.

Short Term Disability Insurance

AFLAC’s Short Term Disability policy would pay you a monthly benefit in the event of a loss of pay during a sickness or off the job injury.

Vision Insurance

This policy covers preventive eye exams, glasses, etc.

Now that you know what AFLAC has to offer, let’s take a look at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company.

Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company

Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company not only offers life insurance policies, but unlike AFLAC, they also offer many other types of insurance. The following is a list of the various types of insurance offered by Southern Farm Bureau:

  • Permanent Life Insurance (comparative to AFLAC’s whole life policy)
  • Term Life Insurance
  • Automobile Insurance
  • Homeowner Insurance

Now that you are familiar with the various types of insurance each company offers, you can use this information to decide which company best suits your needs. Both companies have an A+ rating from A.M. Best. Both are top competitors in the insurance industry.

It will probably come down to your personal preference. If you are well insured in other areas, and are simply focused on getting life, health or medical coverage, then you may be more comfortable getting your quotes from AFLAC since they offer more of a variety of policies in this area. You may want to check with your employer to see if they offer plans through AFLAC.

If you are interested in bundling your life, health, and medical insurance with your home and auto policies – or if you simply would like to keep all your policies with the same company, then Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company would most likely be your choice.
