I have paid premiums over the last 10 years amounting to 34,000.00 for long term care insurance for my mother. I called 6/19 asking instructions and forms I needed to file claim as my mother was being admitted to assisted living. I was told someone would call me for info as to her dr.’s name in order to send form for info as to her need to no longer live at home alone (she is 91).

Received call promptly gave info, Dr received forms completed promptly and info signed off on by neurologist to certify need. As to date, we have paid the assisted living facility $12737.87. I waited a couple of weeks after returning the requested forms–called to as why the delay. No correspondence, no phone call, no money.

I was then told they would only pay on the 15 of the month after the previous month’s invoice was received by them. This was the first I had heard about an invoice. They were not to make the check to the assisted living facility but to my mother. Why did they need an invoice don’t they owe the benefits when they have proof that she has been admitted.

As of today September 10, we have received -0- and have paid $12,737.87 out of our pockets while they delay payment so they will have to refund less of the annual premium of 3390.00 which was due and paid June 4. Since premiums stop 90 days after their first payment of benefits.

Another of the reasons we just love insurance companies and how they treat us when we have a legitimate claim on what we thought we were paying for. Watch your pocket with American pioneer. Forget reading the fine print none of this was in the fine print.

It is now 2016, and in searching for ways to have my mother’s needs met by American Pioneer Insurance to whom she has been paying premiums since 1998 totaling approximately $88k, I came across this review. Nothing seems to have changed as I reflect upon my experiences.

I have yet to have the claim approved and have been communicating with the company since February. Each time there is a promised return call within 48 hours, a call has not been received. Forms have been submitted over and over again by the doctor and me. Time to call a lawyer.
