CURE Auto Insurance Review [2024]

CURE Auto Insurance offers a distinct approach to determining rates, focusing on factors like driving record rather than credit score or education level, making it an appealing choice for those seeking fair and personalized coverage, albeit limited to Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey.

Citizens United Reciprocal Exchange (CURE)

Average monthly rate for good drivers:

$0

A.M. Best rating:

NA

Complaint level:

Low

Pros

  • Rates based on driving record rather than a credit score or education level
  • Roadside assistance coverage
  • Positive customer satisfaction ratings

Cons

  • Coverage only available in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey
  • Few discounts or add-on coverage options
  • No option to file claims online

Final Verdict: Review of Citizens United Reciprocal Exchange (CURE)

CURE only offers car insurance coverage in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey. The company offers reasonable rates if you have a clean driving record, and customers will not pay more if they have bad credit or a lower level of education.

Unfortunately, CURE’s lack of availability throughout the U.S. means it’s not an option for most drivers. As you search for auto insurance in your state, you should find and compare auto insurance rates from multiple companies. Comparing rates will help you purchase the coverage you want at a price that works for you.

The company name is an acronym that stands for Citizens United Reciprocal Exchange. With CURE, you will pay for auto insurance based on your driving record and other factors. However, CURE does not charge any policyholder based on their credit score or education level.

Is CURE a good car insurance company?

CURE has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, but the company does have its share of customer complaints. Most CURE auto insurance reviews state that the company takes too long regarding claims investigations and payouts.  Still, CURE customers are likely to renew their policies, and many CURE policyholders are satisfied with their auto insurance coverage. Some customers’ satisfaction may come from the company’s auto insurance rates.

What You Should Know About CURE Auto Insurance

Believe it or not, most car insurance companies consider your credit score when determining your auto insurance rates. Therefore, if you have bad credit, you will likely pay more for coverage because you pose more of a risk of filing a claim.

Fortunately, CURE auto insurance does not increase a person’s rates just because of a low credit score. CURE does not consider a person’s credit score or education level when determining auto insurance rates.

Instead, CURE car insurance rates are based almost solely on a person’s driving record. So, if you have a clean driving record, you will pay less for coverage with CURE than you may with some other companies in your area.

Unfortunately, CURE only offers car insurance coverage in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey. Still, you may be able to find cheap auto insurance with other providers if you shop online and compare quotes from multiple companies. Comparing quotes can help you find the coverage you need at a price that works with your budget.

CURE Auto Insurance Coverage Options

CURE offers the standard auto insurance coverage you may expect from any car insurance provider, including:

  • Property damage liability
  • Bodily injury liability
  • Collision insurance
  • Comprehensive insurance
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
  • Personal injury protection (PIP)
  • Medical Payments (MedPay)
  • Roadside assistance

You can purchase minimum and full coverage insurance with CURE. Unfortunately, CURE does not offer many add-on coverage options for its customers. So, if you want to customize your car insurance, CURE may not be your best company.

While CURE allows its policyholders to choose their coverage levels, the company offers a specific car insurance package to its customers in New Jersey. Learn more about standard vs. non-standard auto insurance.

How CURE Auto Insurance Ranks Among Providers

CURE auto insurance rates may be cheaper than other insurance companies if you have a clean driving record.

Oddly enough, CURE charges higher rates for married couples than Geico and Progressive if they are in their mid-30s and more than Geico, Progressive, and Allstate if they are over 65.

Still, rates with CURE may be lower than with other insurance companies if you are in your mid-30s and have a clean driving record. Unfortunately, CURE charges more if you are in a car accident and need to file a claim. So, if you’re ever at fault in an accident, you may need to search for another auto insurance company. Find out how long an accident can stay on your record.

Worst Customer Service

I purchased CURE Auto Insurance in 2021 when they landed in Michigan from New Jersey to help our state with our super high unaffordable rates. They all of a sudden kept raising my monthly payment and when I called to complain the rep was very rude, disrespectful, lacked concern, lacked empathy. They lost business and a valued customer forever!

Nj Cure Auto is the worst company ever. Do not to even attempt to give them a call. The only thing they do is take your money. How do you cancel someone's insurance without them knowing. No email no letter on the mail no nothing.

Very affordable & great service

Great service and very low prices. They do not look at education, credit score, etc so I got a much better rate than I get elsewhere. So far, so good.

Scam, raising the policy rate without a notification

Bad company, they added a road side assistance to my policy without my knowledge and are charging me $60 per year for that and they never notified me and when I discovered that accidentally i asked them to cancel It but they refused. Plus online payment cost $15 and also over the phone payment. The only fee free payment is through a check but only if you send it on time as they send you the renewal package only 5 days before the payment due date ...

I don't recommend them.

CURE is a SCAM!

This Company is a SCAM! I will be contacting the BBB to investigate as soon as I complete this review! Potential customers should shop for insurance from an accredited carrier! Cheaper is not better! You will NEVER get to speak to an agent, adjuster, or manager because there are none! They simply employ ppl to pose as receptionist who just sends you from voicemail, to voicemail! Save your self time and money and DO NOT use this company to insure ...

We are DONE with Cure. I have spent many, many hours over the last 3 days now trying to swap vehicles on my policy. I bought a new vehicle and traded one currently insured by Cure that I need removed from my policy. Wednesday, after over an hour wait, I finally was connected with a rep. Took over an hour for him to say he had it switched and was sending the proof of insurance right away. Didn't happen. Waited 4 hours for someone to call me back yesterday. Another 45 minutes on the phone and she was able to add my new vehicle and send me proof of insurance for it. Then I look at my account and the other vehicle that I SPECIFICALLY stated must stay on the policy until Sunday (because I need to drive it to the dealership) has been removed with no insurance. Just spent 2 hours waiting for a call back only to get disconnected when the rep picked up the phone. Now I am waiting another 2 hours so I can cancel all of my policies with Cure. I will not trust an insurance company that can't answer their phone, is incompetent in handling customers and OBVIOUSLY CANNOT DO A SIMPLE VEHICLE CHANGE!!!! What kind of mess would happen with a claim? I am now happily paying $35 a month more to Progressive so that I can be insured by a reputable company I can trust. Stay far away from Cure.
