Final Verdict: Review of Georgia Farm Bureau

Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance was founded in 1958 by the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation to sell insurance to rural communities and farmers. For $35 annually, members can utilize some of the Peach State’s lowest auto insurance rates, alongside homeowners insurance and other benefits.

Today, the company still sells affordable insurance products to various Georgia drivers, though you can get Farm Bureau insurance in many other states. Georgia Farm Bureau is one of over 20 Farm Bureau branches that operate throughout the United States.

It also sells the full coverage you need for maximum protection of your vehicle, which you should compare to other top full coverage auto insurance companies. While you’ll likely get a good deal with Georgia Farm Bureau, you should always shop around and compare quotes with several other companies to ensure you’re not overpaying for auto insurance.

This Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance review will explain everything you need to know about the company, including discounts, rates, customer service reviews, financial ratings, and more.

Georgia Farm Bureau might fit your needs if you want an auto insurance provider with competitive rates, reliable customer service, and various member discounts. All policies include free roadside assistance, and Georgia Farm Bureau members can access travel and entertainment discounts. Unfortunately, Georgia Farm Bureau is only available in Georgia to members for $35 annually, and the company also has a B++, or good, rating from A.M. Best, which measures a company's financial stability. So, you might want to look elsewhere for coverage if financial stability is important to you in an insurer.

What You Should Know About Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance

With Georgia Farm Bureau, policyholders have access to competitive car insurance rates, homeowners insurance, roadside assistance, extra benefits, and good customer service. You can also get the standard auto insurance coverages most companies carry, like liability, collision, comprehensive, and uninsured/underinsured motorist.

Georgia Farm Bureau customer service carries an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), though it lacks BBB accreditation. The BBB measures a company’s responsiveness to and resolution of customer complaints, so you can rest assured that Georgia Farm Bureau will work to resolve any customer concerns.

According to the complaint index from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Georgia Farm Bureau has fewer than average customer complaints compared to other companies similar in size. The average NAIC complaint index is 1.00, and Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance scored 0.28. However, the company’s overall index is 0.75.

In 2020, Georgia Farm Bureau’s home insurance complaint index topped 1.75, indicating it received more complaints than the average company similar in size, but the score significantly rebounded to 0.21 in 2021.

While the company receives few customer complaints and offers many benefits, the Georgia Farm Bureau ratings may concern potential policyholders. Georgia Farm Bureau has a low A.M. Best rating of B++ compared to other insurance companies. A.M. Best, which measures a company’s financial stability, considers B++ a good score, but most reputable companies carry a higher rating.

So, if you’re looking for a car insurance company with solid financial security, you might be better off looking for coverage elsewhere.

Pros and Cons of Georgia Farm Bureau Auto Insurance

While Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance has a lot of benefits to tout, not every insurance company is perfect.

Below is a list of pros to purchasing a Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance policy:

  • Various discount options
  • Membership benefits, like discounts on travel and entertainment
  • Car insurance policies include roadside assistance

However, Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance has a handful of drawbacks that prospective policyholders should consider before purchasing coverage with the company.

Look at the following cons of Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance to see if the company’s cons outweigh its pros:

  • Policyholders must pay $35 annually for a Farm Bureau membership to qualify
  • Only available in Georgia, though Farm Bureau has affiliates in other states
  • Carries a lower-than-average A.M. Best rating of B++, or good

Georgia Farm Bureau might be right for you if you’re a driver looking for an auto insurance policy with included benefits. However, you should always check to see if the benefits outweigh the cons. You should also compare your Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance quotes from other providers to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Coverage Options

You can get all the standard auto insurance coverages at Georgia Farm Bureau that you can find with most other auto insurance companies. However, you should check with a company representative to confirm availability.

In addition, Georgia Farm Bureau is one of the top auto insurance companies with roadside assistance —each of its car insurance policies includes roadside assistance free of charge. Most insurers charge extra monthly for this coverage.

Another benefit to having Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance is the company’s local network of agents who live in the area they serve. The company says that Georgians also won’t need to drive more than thirty minutes to visit a local office.

However, if you prefer managing your policy virtually, you can file Georgia Farm Bureau claims and perform other functions through the mobile app.

What other insurance coverages does Georgia Farm Bureau sell?

Alongside car insurance, you can also get various other insurance products from Georgia Farm Bureau, qualifying you for a multiline — or bundling — discount.

If you’re interested in making Georgia Farm Bureau a one-stop shop for insurance, look at the company’s list of other insurance offerings below:

  • Farm insurance: With Georgia Farm Bureau’s farm insurance, policyholders can create their own coverage package to cover the following structures or incidents: farm, personal liability to others, farm fleet auto coverage, farm structures and equipment, irrigation systems, large farm machinery, and your home.
  • Home insurance: Home insurance with Georgia Farm Bureau has various coverage options, including mechanical breakdown coverage, home business coverage, and hobby farms. The company also has extended coverage for jewelry, furs, and firearms.
  • Life insurance: Georgia Farm Bureau offers several life insurance options allowing policyholders to ensure financial security for loved ones in the event of their passing. Its policies include annuities, term life, and permanent life insurance.
  • Business insurance: You can get the coverage you need to protect your business with Georgia Farm Bureau. The company offers coverages like property insurance, liability, commercial vehicle insurance, and business interruption coverage to replace lost income when a business can’t operate after a covered loss.
  • Health insurance: Georgia Farm Bureau enables companies to offer health insurance to their employees, designed for small businesses under 50 employees. It also allows employers to choose from various plans and a broad network of healthcare providers.
  • Renters insurance: A property owner’s insurance policy may not cover personal belongings if your rental home burns in a fire. Georgia Farm Bureau’s renters insurance allows you to recover the value of your possessions, like furniture, clothes, and appliances, due to incidents like a fire, tornado, accidental water discharge, or theft.

In addition, the company also sells policies for motorcycle, condo, and travel insurance. As you can see, Georgia Farm Bureau offers various other coverage options besides auto, allowing policyholders to bundle all their insurance with Georgia Farm Bureau and save.

Compare Georgia Farm Bureau to other affordable home and auto insurance bundles to get the best deal.

Does Georgia Farm Bureau have a mobile app?

For customers who prefer a virtual experience when managing their auto insurance, Georgia Farm Bureau offers a mobile app for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app enables policyholders to pay their insurance premiums, view their ID cards, manage their policies, and file Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance claims.

The mobile app’s reviews on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store are mixed, but there aren’t many reviews. Georgia Farm Bureau on the Apple App Store has 3.5/5 stars, with only eight total reviews. The Google Play Store has 31 reviews and 4.2/5 stars.

Many customers complain that the app simply opens policy functions on a separate web page and is glitchy. So, if you’re looking for an insurance company with a more well-established mobile app free of glitches, you might be better off with another company.

The Bottom Line: Georgia Farm Bureau Auto Insurance

Georgia Farm Bureau might fit your needs if you want an auto insurance provider with competitive rates, reliable customer service, and various member discounts. All policies include free roadside assistance, and Georgia Farm Bureau members can access travel and entertainment discounts.

Unfortunately, Georgia Farm Bureau is only available in Georgia to members for $35 annually, and the company also has a B++, or good, rating from A.M. Best, which measures a company’s financial stability. So, you might want to look elsewhere for coverage if financial stability is important to you in an insurer.

However, drivers needing car insurance coverage to remain legal on the road, like minimum auto insurance, could find that Georgia Farm Bureau meets their needs. You won’t know if the company’s rates fit your budget until you get a Georgia Farm Bureau quote.

Since Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance coverage is limited to members, the company offers competitive rates. However, car insurance rates depend on various factors. So while looking at average rates can be helpful, you should get a quote and compare rates to find the best deal for your unique needs.

Insurance companies weigh various personal factors and demographics to determine what policyholders will pay for coverage. However, each company looks at certain factors differently than others, so you should always get a quote to know exactly what you’ll pay.

Below is a list of factors that impact the average cost of auto insurance:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Coverage amount
  • Credit score
  • Location
  • Occupation
  • Car make, model, and age
  • Driving record
  • Marital status

If you want to save, you should also compare rates from the cheapest Georgia auto insurance companies. Below are rates from the top five auto insurance companies in Georgia:

Average Monthly Full Coverage Rates for the Top Insurers in Georgia
CompanyFull Coverage Rates
Geico$61
State Farm$107
Travelers$110
Progressive$115
American Family$124

As you can see, Geico has the lowest average full coverage rates for Georgia drivers, totaling $61 monthly, which is $77 less than the state average. State Farm comes in a distant second with rates around $107 a month.

Georgia Auto Insurance Rates for Teen Drivers

Teen drivers in Georgia pay the most for car insurance of all demographics because they lack driving experience and often engage in risky driving. Learn how age affects the cost of auto insurance.

On average, a 16-year-old driver in Georgia pays about $750 a month for full coverage.

You can find the best teen driver rates in Georgia with Geico, which charges about $357 monthly. State Farm comes in second with rates around $402 a month for 16-year-old drivers.

Georgia Auto Insurance Rates for Adult Drivers

As drivers age and obtain more experience behind the wheel, insurance companies view them as safe drivers and award them lower rates. On average, adult drivers in Georgia pay around $138 a month for full coverage.

Once again, Geico and State Farm have the lowest auto insurance rates for adult drivers in Georgia, averaging monthly rates of $61 and $107, respectively.

Georgia Auto Insurance Rates for Senior Drivers

Once drivers reach 65, car insurance rates begin to increase again. Insurers view senior drivers as high risk because of age-related issues like vision loss and slower reflexes, making them more likely to cause an accident and file a claim.

However, in Georgia, seniors pay about $135 monthly for full coverage, a few dollars cheaper than adult drivers.

The best Georgia auto insurance companies for senior drivers are Geico and State Farm, which charge $60 and $105 a month, respectively. If you’re a senior, compare these rates against the top auto insurance providers for seniors to see if Georgia Farm Bureau is the cheapest for you.

Georgia Auto Insurance Rates After a Speeding Ticket

Insurance companies view speeding as high-risk behavior, so you’ll pay higher auto insurance rates in Georgia if you have a speeding ticket. Expect to pay around $175 a month in Georgia with a speeding ticket, 28% higher than average Georgia rates without a ticket.

Geico and State Farm offer the cheapest car insurance rates in Georgia after a speeding ticket, charging monthly rates of $65 and $117, respectively.

Georgia Auto Insurance Rates After an Accident

You’ll pay higher car insurance rates in Georgia after you get in an accident, especially if you’re at fault. An accident shows your insurance company that you’re a risky driver or live in an area prone to more car accidents.

If you’re wondering how long an accident stays on your record, you can rest easy knowing that a car accident only remains for two years in Georgia.

The amount you pay after an accident depends on whether you’re at fault, how long ago the accident took place, and the accident’s severity. On average, Georgia drivers pay $211 monthly for full coverage auto insurance after an accident, an increase of over 50%.

Once again, Geico touts the cheapest average Georgia auto insurance rates after an accident, charging $97 monthly for full coverage. State Farm comes in second with rates of around $127 a month.

Georgia Auto Insurance Rates After a DUI

Insurance companies consider DUIs a serious offense and charge people with DUI convictions much more for car insurance. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs your ability to drive, making you much more likely to cause a car accident and file a claim.

Some insurers could deny you coverage if you have a DUI, though some offer SR-22 certificates to those who need them. Shop around to find affordable auto insurance for high-risk drivers.

In Georgia, expect to pay around $244 monthly for full coverage auto insurance. The cheapest car insurance companies for Georgia drivers with a DUI are State Farm and Progressive, which charge monthly rates of $117 and $162, respectively.

Georgia Minimum Auto Insurance Rates

A Georgia minimum auto insurance policy, including property damage and bodily injury liability, gives drivers the coverage they need to drive legally. Liability insurance coverage pays for property damage and injuries you cause to others in a car accident — it doesn’t cover your vehicle or medical expenses.

On average, you’ll pay around $55 monthly for minimum car insurance coverage in Georgia. Geico offers the lowest minimum coverage rates in Georgia of around $24 a month. The next cheapest company is State Farm, which charges $43 monthly.

Georgia Full Coverage Auto Insurance Rates

Full coverage auto insurance is more expensive than minimum coverage, but it covers your own property damage and injuries. It includes liability, collision, and comprehensive coverages.

On average, you’ll pay about $138 monthly for full coverage car insurance in Georgia. The best companies for full coverage are Geico and State Farm, charging $61 and $107 a month, respectively.

However, several other personal factors make up your insurance rates that average rates don’t consider, and average Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance rates aren’t available online. So, it’s important to compare multiple insurance quotes to find out what you’ll pay for coverage and compare it with Georgia’s top auto insurance companies.

Though Georgia Farm Bureau already offers competitive auto insurance rates in the Peach State, policyholders can save more if they qualify for certain auto insurance discounts. You’ll save even more when you bundle several other insurance products.

One benefit of insuring your vehicle with Georgia Farm Bureau is its vast array of discount opportunities. Georgia Farm Bureau’s auto insurance discounts consist of the following:

  • Driver training discount: If you complete an approved driving course, you may qualify for a Georgia Farm Bureau car insurance discount.
  • Multiline discount: Since Georgia Farm Bureau offers other policies besides auto, you can save by bundling multiple products, like homeowners insurance or renters insurance, with your car insurance.
  • Defensive driving class discount: Georgia Farm Bureau drivers can save 10% on their car insurance rates if they take a defensive driving class, though the course costs $19.95 for members. Defensive driving involves anticipating and knowing how to respond safely to potential hazards.
  • Farm auto rates: You could pay lower rates if you insure your farm with Georgia Farm Bureau and your vehicle qualifies as a farm vehicle.
  • Safe driver discount. If you avoid at-fault accidents and moving violations, you could receive an auto insurance premium reduction with Georgia Farm Bureau.
  • Good student discount. High school and college students could save on their Georgia Farm Bureau car insurance if they have a high GPA.
  • Military discount. Georgia Farm Bureau offers an auto insurance discount to members of the U.S. military.

Drivers looking to save more on their already-low Georgia Farm Bureau auto insurance rates should see if they qualify for any of the above discounts. You can also contact a company representative if you have more questions about eligibility and availability.

Other Ways to Save on Georgia Farm Bureau Auto Insurance

In addition to Georgia Farm Bureau’s various discounts and competitive rates, there are other ways to reduce your auto insurance rates even further. Evaluate the tips listed below if you want to lower your car insurance rates.

  • Buy a cheaper vehicle. Low-value cars with inexpensive parts are cheap to insure since they cost less to fix or replace when you file a claim. So, if you’re looking to save on Georgia Farm Bureau car insurance rates, you could consider getting a vehicle with low insurance rates.
  • Increase your deductible. If you can afford it, you can increase your auto insurance deductible to decrease monthly rates, though you should never increase it to an amount outside your budget.
  • Maintain safe driving habits. You could see lower car insurance rates from your insurer if you practice safe driving, avoid tickets, and remain accident-free. Some companies offer discounts to policyholders who they consider safe drivers.
  • Drop coverages you no longer need. If you have an older car that’s low in value, you could drop your collision and comprehensive coverage and only carry the minimum amount of car insurance required by your state.
  • Shop around. While Georgia Farm Bureau has low car insurance rates, that doesn’t mean it’s the cheapest insurance for everyone. You should always shop around and get insurance quotes to find coverage that fits your budget.
  • Increase your credit score. Not all states allow insurers to check credit scores when setting rates, but some do. If you improve your credit score, you may notice cheaper car insurance premiums at your next renewal.

While many can’t control what discounts they’re eligible for, the above tips give policyholders more power over their auto insurance rates to some degree. Utilizing the tips above, shopping around with other companies, and identifying eligible discounts are the best ways to find cheap car insurance, regardless of the company you’re shopping with.

Good Company

We have always had a good experience with Farm Bureau. Claims usually go smoothly, and the premiums are reasonable. We have a local office so we can go and see someone if we have any questions and answers are usually quick.

Good Insurance Company

The insurance policy rate of Farm Bureau is very compatible. The coverage is just as good as some other major insurance companies. However, the locations are not very convenient to get to and there are just not that many.

If you like to over pay and be under covoered

The premiums were much higher than other companies, and they pay out as little as possible on accident claims. [REDACTED NAME] was fantastic, but their claims department is awful. [REDACTED NAME] wouldn't answer emails for weeks, and when I complained to her superior, she called me and scolded me for complaining. Stay away from this company at all cost,
