Investors Life Insurance of North America has no online access for customers, and no means of contact other than US mail or telephone during their business hours. Customers with existing policies and those seeking to make good insurance decisions should look elsewhere.

In 2011 it is very suspicious for a company to electronically access payments from a customer, but not give the same customer electronic access — not even an email address!

  6. Totally Not Impressed 19. Apr, 2012 at 12:00 am #

We have had this life insurance for several years, too many actually. I feel that the service is very poor, and we’re not getting anything from them, just giving them our money.

If the service is poor now, what will it be like when we need them? I can only imagine. Calling it a loss and moving on.

I was being forced to accept the option that was holding my annuity payments for ten years, I am 86. I was impressed with the interest rate and although I only received a statement once a year was waiting anxiously for the ten years to pass that would help me pay my obligations.

My policy mentioned several options for payment, but in the final day the company insisted that my only options were three. One was for 5years life, then ten years certain with life. After several weeks of trying to negotiate with no success, they would not grant me a 5-year payout.

I hired a lawyer but was “sold down the river when he convinced me that I must take the 10-year certain option which would pay back $375 a month for 10 years. I now felt that I was really”taken by a company that I thought was great since I was given a great interest rate at the start 10 years ago.

Until an angel that is an officer of Noth America saved my life by making it possible to convert to a 5-year payback certain. Allison wherever you are GOD BLESS YOU.

I recently had a problem with Investors life. Until an officer named Allison saved my life correcting a situation that could have caused me to spend 10 years collecting my annuity, rather than the 5 yrs I requested. She could see that at 86 yrs of age my chances of collecting the entire amount were “slim”.

I have been getting letters from the company for the past 3 months informing me my policy has entered the “grace” period and if I don’t send more money it will expire. Have had the policy since 1981 and have been paying $68.31 per quarter.

I talked to a rep and was told that the “cost” of my insurance had risen because the company is not making as much as before. From the quarterly payment to $90.00 per month???? Am contacting the state insurance commissioner about this issue. Really, and it is only a $25,000 Term policy.

Also, why no online access to my policy and statements? What are you hiding?

  10. Rick Martin 09. Nov, 2012 at 12:00 am #

    Wow!!! I feel totally scammed.

I’ve also received the notice that I’ve entered the grace period. Have had the policy since 1991 and been paying $45/mo premium. And now just to keep the insurance I need to pay > $115/mo????

    You’ve got to be kidding!!!

  11. Ron Anton 12. Mar, 2013 at 12:00 am #

    To respond like others below:

I have had my policy for more than 20 years. Only when the annual premium went from $800 per year to $2700 per year did I hear from them about grace periods etc. Their service is terrible. They have not responded or sent me information that I requested on numerous occasions.

Finally, in frustration, I cancelled my policy and will be contacting my attorney. You would think that after more than $22,000 in premium payments that they would have been more responsive. But…they don’t care.

So, everyone out there, don’t spend your money with this company. Very poor service…they need to go out of business.

    Pitiful company. Pitiful service.

I called them 5/17/13 about increasing my payment amount. They would not accept a check for any projected shortfall. They said my bank draft had to be increased and they would send the forms. Guess what, as of 5/31/13 I have not received any forms from them.

These thieves want your policy to expire. They will hear from another State Insurance Commissioner.

  13. Charlotte M Miller 12. Jun, 2013 at 12:00 am #

Would NEVER buy whole life from them again.

Have been trying to get a change of beneficiary form from them for over a year …. no response. My current beneficiary is no longer available …

  14. Brian Claricoates 02. Oct, 2013 at 12:00 am #

I have nothing but good things to say about this company. They have always quickly responded to any request or change I have had.

For all of you complaining about this company, you should do a little research. If you did, you’d find that Investors Life Insurance Company of North America is pretty much in runoff mode.

Americo Life Insurance is now ‘managing in-force policies’ of Investors Life. This means the company you purchased your policy from really doesn’t exist anymore and that can explain why you’ve been unhappy with customer service. Investors no longer sell new policies and the company’s new owners really don’t seem to put much into customer service.

I will say I recently made a claim on my mother’s policy and it was paid within two weeks and that included the Christmas holiday, so they do seem to be timely in paying claims.

Good point that there is no online access.

My husband and I had our $50,000 policy since 1981. They could certainly take money out of our checking account each and every month. At age 56, he was diagnosed and died by age 57. When I was finally able to contact them, they said nope, they wouldn’t pay because the policy had “lapsed.”

They took their payment out of our account in March 2013. He was in Hospice at that point and died in April. Magically, they had not taken the payment out in April. Quite the coincidence, isn’t it?
