What is the teenSMART program?

Adept Driver is a resource that offers driver education based on effective scientific principles that are proven to reduce unsafe driving behaviors.

Adept Driver offers a program known as teenSMART. teenSMART teaches new teenage drivers how to drive through interactive computer-based lessons and practice, parent-teen activities, and certification courses.

Interactive computer-based lessons include realistic driving simulations that assist in the development of neurocognitive pathways associated with crash avoidance skills.

Safe-driving discussions, videos, and in-car driving exercises that reinforce computer-based lessons make up the parent-teen activities hosted by the teenSMART program.

Lastly, at the driver’s own pace, they will complete tests that will result in certifications when passed.

teenSMART addresses the six chief factors behind teen auto collisions by focusing on altering driver behavior and reducing a teen’s risk of collisions.

The six chief factors behind teen auto collision include:

  • visual search
  • hazard detection
  • speed adjustment
  • space management
  • risk perception
  • lifestyle issues

Adept Drivers makes sure that the teenSMART program hits three targets to ensure its success.

First, the program must treat the causes of crashes. It uses studies that focus on crash reduction as a treatable behavior disorder.

Second, it makes sure its effectiveness is verified. Hundreds of insurance company actuaries vet the program. As a result, of the graduates of the program, there have been 30% fewer crashes, 51% fewer bodily injury claims, and 70% less likely to receive traffic violations.

Lastly, the program aims to improve crash reduction skills through proven neurocognitive training.
